Dogs and goodbyes...

Yesterday, we finally packed and left Albert Street, I’m very relieved that:

1) Everything magically fits in the car, including Didi’s 4 beds. Why, no, it’s not excessive! they’re all essential: there is the normal bed, the carrier bed, the cooling mat for heatwaves, and the mat for travel and naps. Would a large fluffy throw count as a 5th bed?

2) We don’t have to do any more cleaning for the house’s handover to our tenant. I am so happy that I can fulfil my inner slobbitude again!

So, a short stopover at a friend's in the UK before we head off to France tomorrow, under heavy rain we are told by the BBC forecast. Fine, this reminds us of why we are escaping now. With all the sun we’ve had it was starting to feel like a redundant move.

When you decide to go on a one year trip, you think time will fly and noone will notice. Then you get caught up in 'THE GOODBYES'.

Bessie the beautiful chocolate spaniel is a far blood relative of Didi (and possibly a Scottish cow). She's the soulmate of a dear friend of ours. Didi has been the grumpy but secretly loving recipient of Bessie’s bouncy enthusiasm since Bessie was a tiny pup. Last week was their goodbye walk. [yes🙄 I did trip a little bit over her in the video].

Dogs don’t really get why we come and go and have a funny idea of time. Their brain usually forgets that they ate a huge bowl of food an hour before, but they will zoom to a specific door under which a particularly interesting cat crawled 3 years ago.

For us humans, goodbyes are often a bit sad even when temporary. UK friends, we will miss you!
